Hanover Park is a village in both Cook and DuPage counties, including the neighborhood of Ontarioville, which is located within the community. The village of Hanover Park is situated 27 miles northwest of the Loop and has a population of approximately 40,000 residents. Its total area is 6.435 square miles, with 0.105 square miles of that being made up of water.
In 1847 a man by the name of Edwin Bartlett began setting down plans for the village. The community started to thrive in the 1880s as new homes started to be built in his subdivision between Ontarioville Road and the railroad tracks. It was a small stop, but it became a valuable connection to the outside world that offered train service to Sioux City, Omaha, and beyond. And in 1955, because the train stop was so small having very few commuters, Hanover Parks’ neighborhood of Ontarioville was removed from the train schedule.
